It took me about a year, but the next NFD Oral History book "First Days, First Nights" is now available in print on Lulu.com (They're offering 15% off until 7/1. Just type in the discount code HUSTLE15 when you check out).
It should show up on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, etc shortly. You can also get it as an e-book on all of sites.
The subtitle is "An Oral History of the Beginnings of Newark Fire Department Careers." The interviews cover the early years of careers from 1940 to 2016.
First days or nights, first fires, first deaths, even first charges (you don’t argue about Yankee baseball with a Deputy Chief). It’ll bring back memories of that first time you stepped into a firehouse.
If you never stepped into a firehouse, or maybe you want your children or grandkids to understand (I get inquiries all the time), then it will at least give an idea of what it is like to do that. Sometimes funny, sometime tragic.
This is the NFD as seen from the “red ass" point of view.
